Freemasonry on the High Seas!

Writer: Rob SmithRob Smith

Gary Collins of Bramcote Lodge, No. 8750, recently undertook a lengthy vogae from Southampton to South America - a total of 65 days with a number of ports along the way!

Having been on a few cruises before he decided to put an advert in the daily ships news paper, Horizon, to arrange a casual get together with fellow Freemasons to raise money for P&Os charity the 'Teenage Cancer Trust'.

At the first meeting, 12 Brethren attended and discussed how to raise money for the ships charity. It was decided to hold a raffle, along with a get together, toward the end of the cruise, with wives and partners.

Gary served as the Director of Cemonies, with fellow Freemasons Les Butterworth as Secretary and Cliff Fazackerly as treasurer. Unfortunately some time later Les Butterworth and his wife had to disembark at Grand Cayman Island and so, after making eye contact with Gary, Tony volunteered to tank on the roll of secretary.

The event was held on the afternoon of March 5th raising £300 for P&Os charity, which was handed over to the Staff Captain Warren Payne (who is also a Freemason on the Isle of Wight) on the 7th March.

The pictures are of the first meeting and the fund raising event along with the hand over to Warren Payne and the thank you to the Freemasons from P&O in the Horizon news paper.
