Saint Peters Craft Lodge 8493 Cycling Club - Press release

As members of the Saint Peter’s Lodge, we celebrated the first anniversary of the formation of our Lodge’s cycling club SPLCC, which started at the beginning of the lockdown in 2020

The Cycling Group is open to all members and proposed members of the Lodge.

We also boast a fantastic Social Group which for the last few years has gone from strength to strength but when the pandemic hit we needed to try and maintain some form of communication and contact as best we could, which we did via Zoom meetings, but being able to have the cycling group has really made us even closer as a lodge and we are positive that we will see the benefit of this once we are back in the Temple.

Many members and their families have been through some very difficult times during this unprecedented time.

As well as the group having retired members, it also has members who are still working, but we have all benefited tremendously from this new cycling group, by being able to enjoy the open spaces and discussions as well as the odd coffee and cake breaks. ( All whilst socially distancing of course )

In recognition of the lifeline which the Mill Waters cafe provides to our members, the club is sponsoring two ladies from the cafe who are undertaking a 26-miles walk in aid of McMillian Cancer Research.

The club has donated £120 towards the total already raised.

Any brother who wishes to add to the total and increase the Masonic visits, (I'm told that the Rocky Road slice is amazing) can visit the JustGiving page for the event at Mill Waters Charity Walk

The Cycling Club was founded by  W. Bro. Barry Harman who cycles almost daily and who has encouraged many of us to join him, including the current WM of the Lodge.

We currently have 12 members who represent over 1/3 of the total membership of the Lodge with many more whom we encourage to come along when they can. The fresh air, exercise & camaraderie whilst cycling has been superb and boosts our mental health as well as our physical health, the benefits of which have been notable throughout the group.

We have commemorated the Club's year milestone by having a specially designed Club Cycling Shirt which carries on its front details of the club and its formation and on the back an individually designed logo containing masonic emblems mounted on a bicycle cleverly designed by W. Bro. Peter Whitlam, and which can be seen on the photographs.

We feel that the establishment of the club has been a positive step in our Masonry and we would encourage other Lodges to try this out so that we could perhaps hold an annual cycling event.

We will keep you updated on the Cycling Club's progress
