About the Lodge
Fairham Lodge No. 8002 meet on the first Wednesday of the month during the period of October through to April, excluding January. Our meetings are held at The Masonic Hall, Goldsmith Street, Nottingham. The April meeting is our annual general meeting (Installation) where the members install the Worshipful Master for the ensuing year, having been elected at the preceding March meeting. All our meetings begin at 6pm, except for April when we meet at 5.30pm due to the extra business that is transacted, with each of our monthly meetings being followed by a two or three course dinner.
As we only meet six times per year this is reflected in the annual subscriptions paid by all members.
In addition, there are rehearsals prior to the monthly meetings which allows those members involved in the ‘work’ to not only practice but to expand their knowledge and experience. Other members who may not be directly involved in the work that month, are not excluded but are instead fully encouraged to attend where appropriate.
At the monthly meetings a raffle is usually held with the proceeds going to various local and national charities.
Once a year we hold a large social gathering, inviting our partners to celebrate along with the members, together with family and friends. This event takes the form of a formal evening and is arranged by the Master and his partner. Each event being unique and reflecting the tastes and interests of the Master and his partner.
Members are encouraged to attend the Remembrance Day parade in Clifton each year. We are proud to lay a wreath on behalf of the Freemasons of Nottinghamshire and, to hand over a cheque for a donation to the Poppy Appeal from funds raised at our November meeting.
Due to the location of the Masonic Hall, transport is relatively easy with the NET Tram stopping almost outside the front doors, in addition to a large car park adjoining the hall, which, for a fee, is available for members.
We have a reputation for being a warm and welcoming lodge, something that our members pride themselves, receiving with open arms new members and visitors from other lodges alike.
Part of our meetings include ceremonies, where members progress along their masonic journey. A part of this involves learning pieces of ritual, however individuals’ abilities to learn and memorise, are taken into account and assistance is given where needed our end goal being enjoyment at the meetings.
Lodge History
The Lodge was formed in November 1964 and is so named after Fairham Brook. A number of the original members were living in that area at the time of formation.
Our members come from a wide range of backgrounds, include serving and retired members of the Armed and Emergency services, Trades People, Civil Servants, Youth Leaders and Businessmen.
The age range of our members spans from mid 20s up to mid 80s, this gives us not only an invaluable depth of knowledge and experience to draw on, but also enables us to engage the perspective of the younger generations.
