The Province is pleased to support the Rainbow Parents Carers Forum with a donation of £1,020 towards delivering inclusive swimming sessions for families with children and young people with disabilities.
Rainbow Parents Carers Forum was delighted to welcome Brian Slack and Roger Pegg, from the Province’s Charity Team, to their P2P meeting on Thursday 9th May where Brian and Roger were happy to present them with a cheque.
Quote from the meeting: ”Our families are often unable to access public swimming sessions either because their physical needs mean they are not accessible, or they find them daunting and stressful due to their sensory difficulties. These inclusive sessions will give them the opportunity to experience the water in a calm environment with support on hand if needed."
One parent commented that these swimming sessions were the first time she had ever been in the water with her son, and although he was unable to walk he could move freely and effortlessly in the water and that brought her to tears.
“With this grant we will be able to offer 6 inclusive swimming sessions, during the school holidays, with hoist and lifeguard, and refreshments for the activity session after the swimming.”
